• Made from robust, sustainable residual wood
• with a unique seat made of seagrass fibers
• 100% handmade and fair trade

The compact Sungai bench derives its timeless beauty from its simple design and the use of high-quality natural materials. Its seat is woven from robust seagrass, which can withstand heavy loads, while its frame is made from leftover teak branches that are otherwise not used in furniture production. This creates its charming look with its slightly irregularly shaped legs and crossbars, representing a sustainable alternative to other woods.

We deliberately chose not to apply a lacquer finish to highlight the natural color of the wood and its minor imperfections. The result is a piece of furniture that not only lends your room a natural elegance but is also practical. Sungai is versatile: place it at the foot of your bed, in the hallway, or anywhere you need seating. It can help you and your family, for example, when putting on your shoes, but can also be used as a unique console or side table.

Main material: Seagrass

Our benches are made from plant fibers. They therefore smell and feel wonderfully natural.

What basket weavers commonly refer to as "seagrass" is actually not an aquatic plant, but a small, palm-like plant that is widespread on sandy beaches in tropical Asia. The leaves of these plants, often cultivated by humans, are cut off, sliced into strips, dried, and then processed by hand.

Other materials: Teak wood

Factory:

This bench is handcrafted in Java, Indonesia.
When selecting our local producers, we prioritize fair wages and good working conditions. In the factories where we source our goods, we work exclusively with adult and experienced artisans. No harmful chemicals are used in the manufacturing process. Because all steps are done by hand, the production process generates minimal greenhouse gas emissions. We ensure all of this through regular on-site visits and ongoing personal contact with the companies.
