➤ The sustainable main material: rattan, bamboo, water hyacinth and raffia

Our mixed wall decor sets utilize a selection of natural fibers, all of which are fast-growing, sustainable, and abundant. Rattan grows in natural rainforests, and its harvesting contributes to the preservation of these ecosystems; bamboo and raffia grow quickly and are already widely cultivated; while water hyacinths are an invasive species in Indonesia, overrunning many waterways, making their use an environmentally friendly choice.

This wall decoration set is handmade in Java, Indonesia.

When selecting our local production partners, we prioritize fair wages, safe working conditions, and reasonable working hours. We work exclusively with small, family-run businesses with a maximum of 20 to 30 employees. All of them are experienced, adult craftspeople. Older people, especially those no longer able to work in agriculture, benefit from jobs in these crafts, as they can use their skills, acquired early in life, to earn a living and pass on traditional production methods to the younger generation. They have often told us how happy they are to be able to create something meaningful and earn a good living. Because all work is done by hand, the production process generates virtually no greenhouse gas emissions. We ensure all of this through regular on-site visits and ongoing personal contact with the businesses.


➤ The production process: from raw material to finished wall decor set

For our wall decorations, the plant fibers are first cut and dried by experienced artisans at our production partners in the Indonesian province of Central Java. Raffia is often twisted into cords. The fibers are then carefully woven by hand into the desired shapes. Creating a five-piece wall decoration set takes approximately three hours in total.
