With our Akara rattan plant stand, you can bring a piece of nature into your home and give your room a warm, relaxed boho flair.

The planter, made from 100% plant-based materials, allows you to creatively arrange your plants at different heights.
Akara is made of robust and sustainable rattan, providing your plants with a stable base while protecting your floor from scratches. It's ideal for flower pots up to 20 cm in diameter, ensuring they stand securely and won't tip over. Thanks to its neutral colors and minimalist design, it's just as versatile as a standard rattan planter and blends harmoniously into a variety of interior styles.

Whether in the living room, bedroom or on the balcony – Akara lends your home a natural elegance and also improves the indoor climate by placing plants in a slightly higher position so that they can develop their air-purifying effect even better.

Akara is meticulously handcrafted on the island of Java in Indonesia. We place great importance on fair wages and good working conditions. The use of high-quality natural materials and production by experienced artisans underscore the sustainability and quality of this product. You can be sure you are receiving a durable and eco-friendly accessory for your home.

Please also check out our other offers – in our shop you will find many different baskets, home accessories and bags made from sustainable materials under fair production conditions.

➤ The sustainable main material: rattan

This rapidly renewable raw material is obtained from rattan palms, which grow as climbing plants in the tropical forests of Indonesia. Their branches and trunks are harvested by hand without damaging the surrounding trees and then dried. The inner part of the branches and trunks is used in varying thicknesses for furniture, baskets, or lamps, while the bark is cut into strips and used for delicate weaving, such as the well-known Viennese wickerwork. Because rattan palms require an intact ecosystem to grow, rattan processing provides an incentive for the local population to maintain healthy, natural forests.

➤ Our production partners: Selected according to fair trade criteria

When selecting our local production partners, we prioritize fair wages, safe working conditions, and reasonable working hours. We work exclusively with small, family-run businesses with a maximum of 20 to 30 employees. All of them are experienced, adult craftspeople. Older people, especially those no longer able to work in agriculture, benefit from jobs in these crafts, as they can use their skills, acquired early in life, to earn a living and pass on traditional production methods to the younger generation. They have often told us how happy they are to be able to create something meaningful and earn a good living. Because all work is done by hand, the production process generates virtually no greenhouse gas emissions. We ensure all of this through regular on-site visits and ongoing personal contact with the businesses.

➤ The production process: from raw material to finished plant stock

For our plant stands, experienced craftsmen at our production partners in the Indonesian province of West Java cut the dried rattan fibers to the correct length and then bend them into the desired shape using heat: Particularly thick rattan fibers form the basic structure, the Akara, and the plant stand is then held together by nails and strips of rattan palm bark wrapped around the thicker fibers. The entire assembly of a plant stand takes just under three hours.
