Every glance at this cushion reminds us of the sound of the sea and a gentle breeze. With its airy fringes and sun-bleached material, Tarakan brings a touch of the tropical beach into your home. Its round shape offers a welcome change from the usual rectangular cushions, and it creates a wonderful contrast when combined with them.

The creation of this artful cushion requires great patience and dexterity. The starting material is dried bast fibers, which are woven together using traditional needle-weaving techniques to form this enchanting round cushion. This approach gives the cushion its characteristic texture and depth. Tarakan is filled with a blend of cotton and coconut fibers that retains its plump, round shape over time. The cushion is available in two sizes.

Main material: Bast

Our pillows are made from plant fibers. They therefore smell and feel wonderfully natural.

Bast (Corypha utan) occurs naturally in the steppe and forest regions of Southeast Asia. The plant renews its leaves approximately every two years, shedding the old ones, which are then collected, dried in the sun for several days to weeks, and processed into basketry depending on the desired degree of browning. Its relative rarity and the more complex processing make this material somewhat more expensive compared to other plant fibers. While it is hardly known in Europe, the material has proven its worth among the local population in Southeast Asia in the form of all kinds of everyday objects and enjoys great popularity due to its pleasantly soft yet robust nature.

Filling: Cotton and coconut fiber
