➤ The sustainable main material: cotton

Cotton is a natural plant fiber that thrives in tropical and subtropical regions and has been used by humans for millennia. For our products, we source sustainably harvested cotton from local farmers in Java. The fields are fertilized naturally, and the cotton bolls are picked by hand. After ginning, the cotton is pressed into bales, combed, and spun into yarn by hand. Our cotton is skin-friendly and free of chemical treatments, and therefore not suitable for tumble drying.


➤ Our production partners: Selected according to fair trade criteria

When selecting our local production partners, we prioritize fair wages, safe working conditions, and reasonable working hours. We work exclusively with small, family-run businesses with a maximum of 20 to 30 employees. All of them are experienced, adult craftspeople. Older people, especially those no longer able to work in agriculture, benefit from jobs in these crafts, as they can use their skills, acquired early in life, to earn a living and pass on traditional production methods to the younger generation. They have often told us how happy they are to be able to create something meaningful and earn a good living. Because all work is done by hand, the production process generates virtually no greenhouse gas emissions. We ensure all of this through regular on-site visits and ongoing personal contact with the businesses.

For our handcrafted Linggah throws, the cotton is first dyed black to achieve its characteristic deep hue. Skilled artisans at our production partners on the Indonesian island of Java then weave the thick, dyed yarn on traditional handlooms into a dense, high-quality fabric, which is later sewn into throws.
