➤ The sustainable material: seagrass

The seagrass used by our production partners grows in dense meadows on the seabed in the coastal areas of the Indian Ocean. The long, flexible leaves are carefully harvested by hand, cut into narrow strips, and then gently dried. This natural process gives the material its characteristic strength and durable structure, making it ideal for crafting high-quality, handmade products. Thanks to its natural beauty and eco-friendliness, seagrass is the perfect choice for stylish, sustainable accessories that combine aesthetics with environmental responsibility.


➤ Our production partners: Selected according to fair trade criteria

When selecting our local production partners in Indonesia, we prioritize fair wages, safe working conditions, and reasonable working hours. We work exclusively with small, family-run businesses with a maximum of 20 to 30 employees. All of them are experienced, adult artisans. Older people, in particular, who can no longer work in agriculture, benefit from jobs in these crafts, as they can use their skills, acquired early in life, to earn a living and pass on traditional production methods to the younger generation. They have often told us how happy they are to be able to create something meaningful and earn a good living. Because all work is done by hand, the production process generates virtually no greenhouse gas emissions. We ensure all of this through regular on-site visits and ongoing personal contact with the businesses.


➤ The production process: from raw material to finished carpet

Our Loka rugs are handcrafted by skilled artisans on the Indonesian island of Java. The dried seagrass fibers, a completely natural material, are woven without any further processing to create durable and elegant rugs. Each fiber is handwoven to create a harmonious pattern, using a template to ensure the rug achieves its perfect round shape. With no additional treatments or synthetic additives, the rug remains 100% natural. The production process for each rug takes approximately three hours from start to finish.
