Main materials: Seagrass, banana fiber
Our placemats are made from plant fibers. They therefore smell and feel wonderfully natural.
What basket weavers commonly refer to as "seagrass" is actually not an aquatic plant, but a small, palm-like plant that is widespread on sandy beaches in tropical Asia. The leaves of these plants, often cultivated by humans, are cut off, sliced into strips, dried, and then processed by hand.
Banana fibers are the fibers from the layered stems of cultivated banana trees. The intense brown color develops naturally when the fibers are dried in the sun for about a week. The individual strips are then rolled into the characteristic strands, approximately 6 mm thick. Only old, dying banana plants are used for this material.
Other materials: Nylon thread
