Material: Bast

Our wall decorations are made from plant fibers. They therefore smell and feel wonderfully natural.

Bast (Corypha utan) occurs naturally in the steppe and forest regions of Southeast Asia. The plant renews its leaves approximately every two years, shedding the old ones, which are then collected, dried in the sun for several days to weeks, and processed into basketry depending on the desired degree of browning. Its relative rarity and the more complex processing make this material somewhat more expensive compared to other plant fibers. While it is hardly known in Europe, the material has proven its worth among the local population in Southeast Asia in the form of all kinds of everyday objects and enjoys great popularity due to its pleasantly soft yet robust nature.
